South Mountain Creamery, a Maryland dairy farm and home delivery provider, has expanded its delivery service to an estimated 500 households in Virginia thanks to a special collaboration with 4P Foods.
This year, South Mountain Creamery celebrates 24 years as a family-owned and operated farm, creamery, wholesaler, and home delivery provider based out of Middletown, Maryland. With delivery routes throughout Maryland, Washington, D.C., Pennsylvania, Delaware, North Carolina, and Virginia, SMC is excited to share that Charlottesville and Richmond, Virginia, are now part of the SMC home delivery family. With the addition of these new delivery routes, South Mountain Creamery serves an estimated 10,000 households weekly along the East Coast, continuing their mission of connecting families with high-quality, fresh foods from local farmers and vendors.
Earlier this year, 4P Foods, a weekly grocery delivery service and local CSA based out of Washington, D.C, decided to shift their focus from home delivery services to put their full effort into supporting the future of Farm-to-School programming, which provides children with nutritious, local food access. To accomplish this mission, 4P Foods and SMC entered a new level of partnership so that 4P Foods customers would continue to receive high-quality, local foods through home delivery.
These two companies share a deep passion for their customers and mission, and in order to prioritize customer satisfaction during this transition, they worked together tirelessly to ensure that customers would feel little to no growing pains thanks to a collaborative approach.
It was very important to clearly communicate 4P Food’s change of service and their strong endorsement of South Mountain Creamery. Both service providers reached out to existing 4P Foods home delivery customers in a variety of methods and channels to ensure the message was received and instructions for how to transition successfully were clearly communicated. SMC and 4P worked together on a coordinated messaging plan to send updates via email, SMS text messaging, social media, and through personal customer service phone calls, all thanks to their shared dedication to consistent, clear information to accomplish the transition.
During this time, SMC and 4P Foods prioritized creating an effortless and streamlined process for customers to start shopping in their new home delivery account. Users could update their new account preferences using their previous 4P Foods username and password, browse for new and familiar products, place their new weekly or biweekly orders, and receive deliveries without any gaps in service.
To help 4P Food’s customers feel at home, SMC started carrying product lines that 4P Foods customers already know and love, like Twin Oaks Tofu. Additionally, since SMC requires a cooler or porch box to be placed outside to receive orders, transitioning 4P Foods customers are encouraged to simply place their existing 4P Foods reusable grocery bags outside their doors to receive their SMC orders and to promote a more sustainable delivery process.
