Home Delivery & Farm FAQ

Home Delivery

Free delivery with all orders over $60.

If under $60, there is a $4.99 delivery fee.

Not home?  Not a problem. We can deliver to a cooler you provide or our milk porch box outside of your home. Please note, in the case where there is no cooler left out, we won’t leave your order.  Milk starts to spoil at 40F and other products packaged in paper need protection (squirrels love our artisan bread). We are happy to deliver to a cooler at the front, side, or back door – just provide us the delivery instructions and our delivery team will handle the rest.

We deliver weekly. Your address determines your delivery day (Tuesday – Friday). The time of delivery depends on where you fall along the route. Most of our home deliveries occur OVERNIGHT. If your cell number is linked to your account, you will receive a text message when your delivery arrives.

A recurring or standing order includes the essential products you want delivered each week. But we know not every week is the same, so you can make changes as often as you like. You have until midnight the night before your delivery day to make changes online. The advantage of having a recurring order is that once placed, you can be assured that your essentials will arrive, even if you forget. We highly recommend having a recurring order, but the choice is yours. We’re flexible.

Yes, please!  We’re committed to reusing bottles as much as possible and then when they’ve reached the end of their life, they’re recycled.  Please rinse them thoroughly and leave them for your driver.

Each bottle has a $2.00 deposit that is refunded back to you when the bottle is returned. Our produce bags have a $4.00 deposit that is refunded back to you when they are returned.

Simply update your delivery address online. If you are within a delivery area the site should provide you a new delivery day. If there are any questions, please reach out to customer service to confirm.

Yes, we don’t deliver on Thanksgiving, Christmas, and New Years’ day.  On these weeks, we shift our delivery day so that everyone will still get there delivery that week.  We send out plenty of notice of delivery day shifts ahead of time. Please note: we do deliver on all the other federal holidays.

We have no customer contracts, so if you would like to cancel service simply email us at [email protected] or call us at 301-371-8565. We can arrange to pick up any outstanding bottles upon service cancellation. Please note if you have purchased our Milk Box, it’s yours to keep. If it is still in good condition and would like us to find it another home, let us know and we’ll do our best to accommodate.

Our ice cream is delivered in a cardboard box, fitted with a styrofoam insert and dry ice to keep your ice cream frozen.

No, it is illegal in MD.

Yes, all South Mountain Creamery milk is pasteurized. We pasteurize using an HTST (High Temperature, Short Time) system, which means that our milk is heated to 168°F for 17 seconds and then cooled. Most grocery store milk is UHT which means they cook the milk hotter for longer. This gives them a longer shelf life, but the milk loses all of its flavors. The HTST system helps maintain all the flavor and natural goodness.

No, we are not certified organic. We follow many of the same practices.  Of our crops are non-GMO, our cows are grass-fed with plenty of time out on pasture.  Our cows have never been given any growth hormones or medicated feed. We work closely with local conservation groups to preserve our soil and prevent soil erosion.   We are always happy to discuss our farming practices in more detail. If you would like to know more, please feel free to email your questions: [email protected]

Simply put, it is as fresh as it gets. Our milk is oftentimes being delivered to your door within 24 hours of the cow being milked! We take extra care and attention to gently pasteurize, never ultra-pasteurize, our milk. And after all that care and attention, no plastic for us! Glass preserves the fresh taste, with the added benefit of protecting Mother Nature from thousands of plastic and paper cartons being dumped in landfills.

We visit farms and producers and carefully select only the best local and small-batch products to feature in our marketplace. You can shop confidently knowing that all the products you see on our site are grown, raised or produced using the highest standards and are therefore naturally nutrient-rich and delicious.
