This year, our country turned 250 years old, and America250 marked the occasion the way any of us would mark a big birthday: with an enormous, show-stopping cake.
We’re proud to share that South Mountain Creamery’s milk was donated as part of Maryland’s contribution to the National Birthday Cake Tribute, a monumental sculutpral cake representing all 50 states, Washington D.C., and the U.S. territories created as a gift to the nation.
America’s Biggest Birthday Cake
On July 4th, 2026, the tribute was unveiled at the Library of Congress, the vision of renowned cake artist Grace Pak of Duchess of Cameron. Built over several months with volunteer pastry chefs and artisans, the piece featured handcrafted elements from every state and territory, artwork from America250’s student Filed Trip content, and historical guidance from the Smithsonian and Colonial Williamsburg.
Why we said yes
When we were asked to send milk into a project celebrating 250 years of American history, it wasn’t a hard decision. This farm has been part of Maryland’s story for over two decades. Getting to send a piece of that into a nationwide celebration felt like exactly the kind of thing a family farm should get to do
Where to See It
The cake is on public display at the White House Vistory Center through August 2nd. If you’re in the D.C. area, it’s worth the stop. We are beyond honored to take part in America’s 250th. Happy birthday, America!
