Launching into Summer

Lots of exciting things are happening on the Hometown Harvest farm, keeping us busy busy. Our chickens are starting to lay bigger and bigger eggs. We should hopefully begin to see large eggs from these girls in a few more week. We have the mobile pen now all set up for our lambs, who should be arriving this weekend. Our first ever batch of broiler chickens will be moving out onto pasture this weekend. Our spring plantings are finally in the ground. They were a few weeks late as a realist of all of that rain. Unfortunately we do have some plant loss as a result of the delay, but we got most of the plants in. Next Friday we should have one final planting day this spring. We will put in additional watermelon, summer squash, and flowers. Currently I am working on installing our irrigation lines to the crops, and we have begun what I like to call “The farmers boot camp”: Day 1 ‘Vampire training’, as I hammer in about 800 tomato stakes over the next week.

Next week we will celebrate 7 years since we made our first delivery. It is pretty awesome to think about how this entire service began out a small idea at a farmers market, and a tax refund check 🙂 Over the years it has grown through your love and support to serving over 2,000 home delivery members, and supporting over 200 local farmers, bakers, fisherman, and small mom and pop businesses. As we enter into our 7th year, we have some new and exciting things planed. A major website upgrade is on the horizon which has been 6 months in the making, incorporating feedback from you. We also have some new items coming to the online market very soon. Stay tuned……
